 Mandatory Registration of Teachers with the GTCS

The GTCS will share the experiences and outcomes from a number of pilot studies that were undertaken during the 2015-16 academic session.  

Models of Teacher Education

SCIS are working in partnership with the teacher training institutions to develop bespoke PGCE/PGDE programmes that colleagues will be eligible to undertake whilst in employment.  Professor Teresa Moran, University of Dundee will outline how a programme could work for SCIS schools.

 GIRFEC - Additional Support Needs

Common Thread Schools are a SCIS member.  Their Executive Head of Education, Kieron O’Brien,  will consider how the SCIS special schools can support children and young people and colleagues in the mainstream schools. 

The Scottish Child Abuse Enquiry

This session will be led by Graeme Watson, Partner with Clyde & Co.  Graeme’s input and advice were pivotal as SCIS devised the Information and Guidance Document: Scottish Child Abuse Inquiry: 'The O’Brien Inquiry'.  Graeme will contextualise this publication and outline the role and responsibilities of Heads.Strategic Considerations for Schools

Economic Update - and potential impacts on the Scottish independent Schools sector - Rhys Herbert, Senior Economist, Lloyds Banking Group and James Miller, Associate Director, Bank of Scotland Financial Markets 

Delivering development projects and strategic plans for Scottish Independent Schools - funding solutions, factors considered by a bank and working together to achieve a school's strategic development goals   - Alan Coats, Area Director, Bank of Scotland 

 

International Students - Attract, Recruit and Manage the process of increasing international student numbers in a safe, regulated and compliant manner.

Following the Conference, there will be an opportunity for colleagues to attend this presentation by Zakaria Mahmood, CEO and Peter Kent, Chair of the council for Independent Schools at INTCAS.
