Summary:

Dollar Academy is one of the first SCIS schools to integrate Focus on Sound into the curriculum.  We are delighted that Dollar has proactively secured Simon Foxall to give this input, and grateful that it has been opened to Music teachers in other schools.

Simon Foxall, Managing Director of Focus on Sound, will introduce these new listening resources. He will provide advice to existing users, as well as demonstrating all the major features of the system. There will be an opportunity to try out the software on Dollar Academy's music department computers.

Dollar Academy’s Director of Music, Karol Fitzpatrick, has worked with Simon to link lessons with the new Scottish curricula. ‘This is a wonderful resource which has provided our staff and pupils with easily accessible listening materials of the highest quality. I would warmly recommend this superb software to all music departments’.

Focus on Sound was developed in the UK and is now used in 12 countries. As SQA was the first UK board to bring in new specifications, this has been the focus of attention for the software over the last year. The colourful resources help to train students in all the SQA concepts at various levels, whether it is the Scots Ballad, music technology, rock chord sequences - or just basic theory.

We are also delighted to welcome Richard Payne of MusicFirst and Music Sales, who will present the MusicFirst Online Classroom, which includes Noteflight notation software, Soundation sequencer, Auralia ear training, Musition theory training, as well as programs for younger students.

This event will also provide a professional learning opportunity for colleagues in Music Departments.
