Event Description

For Data Protection Officers

In partnership with Navigator, we are delighted to offer a series of two modules with a key focus on current data protection challenges for independent schools. Participants registering for Module one will automatically be registered for modules 2.

Session One  -   31 October 2023, 9.30-11.00 am

Session Two  -  14 November 2023, 9.30-11.00 am

These sessions will provide an overview of updates and changes to the UK’s data protection legislation and case law during the past year.  It will also look at updates to Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) guidance and enforcement actions to identify key areas where Scottish independent schools might focus on improving compliance.   It will include a horizon scanner looking at further changes anticipated in the year ahead, set out in the regulator’s 3-year action plan (ICO25) and how best to prepare.

The sessions will be led by is Karima Higgins;

Having started life as a corporate/corporate finance solicitor, in private practice, Karima spent 15 years in house; latterly 10 years as director of legal services of a national recruitment company, responsible for its legal and compliance function. She spent 6 months as a GDPR specialist for STV and was then engaged to troubleshoot and take over the running of a law firm's commercial dept, as interim director and strategist and has since worked for clients such as Dobbies Garden Centres, Met Office and Travelodge.
