Event Description

Children’s overuse and misuse of non-homework screen activities (social media, TV, YouTube, gaming etc) is increasingly linked with risks to their physical, emotional and academic well-being and is now a medical issue.

The things that pupils say and do online can get them into trouble now and create a digital footprint for years to come.

Participants will gain a better understanding of these issues and learn what they can do to establish healthy screen habits in pupils and prevent problems.

Dr Aric Sigman, an American, has published a number of peer-reviewed medical papers on this subject and is the author of the book Remotely Controlled. He lectures on PSHE health education at schools and to parents, at medical schools and to NHS doctors. Dr Sigman's main interest is in protecting mental and physical health and preventing problems in areas including addictions e.g. alcohol and screen dependenciesscreen time, body image, and sex and relationships. He is a member of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on a Fit and Healthy Childhood and publishes peer-reviewed medical papers on health and development subjects. Dr Sigman is the author of five books on health and development-related topics including Getting Physical which won The Times Educational Supplement's Information Book Award. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology, Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society and a Chartered Scientist awarded by the Science Council. Further information: www.aricsigman.com
