The Advanced Higher English Practitioner Conference, held at the High School of Dundee on November 1st 2024, and facilitated by the team at SCIS, provided valuable CPD for teachers, and prospective teachers, of Advanced Higher English. With talks from David Swinney, the English Implementation Manager at the SQA, as well as Dr Aliki Varvogli, Head of Humanities and Senior Lecturer in English at the University of Dundee, the conference brought together teachers from the state and independent sectors from across Scotland – some even boarding trains at 5:30am to be in attendance!
As well as offering hints and tips on the best ways to support learners throughout the Advanced Higher course, the conference also gave delegates the exciting opportunity to consider the ways in which the skills derived from the study of Advanced Higher can articulate into the university experience. Of equal importance on the day, however, was the opportunity for teachers to network and share experiences with colleagues, by the end of the day, exchanging email addresses and making plans for future collaboration.
Key to the success of this event was the support of the SCIS team. Thanks to their effective advertising of the conference, and their efficient handling of delegate information, the conference was able to run smoothly with a pleasing level of attendance. Always willing to answer any questions and go the extra mile, the SCIS team provided reassurance whenever it was required, and it was a pleasure working with them.
