Event Description
With all the challenges facing independent schools in recent years, data protection compliance may have slipped down the priority list. Yet compliance requirements remain unchanged, and the ICO acts promptly to investigate complaints about organisations using children’s personal data. Lately they have published additional guidance on how they expect organisations to comply and address new challenges, such as the use of biometric data (fingerprints, facial recognition) and AI (e.g. for recruitment purposes).
Where should you start work improving a school’s compliance?
This training provides a general overview of compliance requirements, with a focus on creating a ‘road map’ that prioritises taking practical action in risk areas to achieve ‘quick win’ improvements where possible, and includes discussion of relevant updates to the ICO guidance.
It is aimed at colleagues with a basic understanding of legal requirements relating to data protection and privacy who are looking for practical guidance on improving organisational compliance. It is suitable for all management levels (Bursar, HR and ICT teams, for example) and others tasked with risk management or data protection.
We are delighted to welcome Sean Morris, Legal Manager at Navigator, to deliver this session. Sean trained as a solicitor in the public sector and specialises in advising organisations on data protection law, with clients ranging from commercial businesses to independent schools and charities across the UK. He regularly delivers training on data protection issues, with published work appearing in Business Insider, HR Network, Daily Business, Scottish Affairs, and the Industrial Law Journal.
