Head of School, Head of Pastoral Care

We are delighted to welcome Sarah Gilzean, an accredited specialist in discrimination law at Morton Fraser Lawyers, to deliver this session.

You will look at the issues that schools are currently dealing with in this fast moving area. She will cover the legal framework and recent case law that will be relevant to teaching staff and management in this area.  She will also touch on parental rights and responsibilities, safeguarding, data protection and government guidance on this topic as well as how to reconcile the religious and other protected beliefs of staff with a school's duties under the Equality Act.

Sarah is a Partner in our Employment Law team. Sarah is an accredited specialist in discrimination law and employment law. Sarah is highly regarded in the sector as a discrimination lawyer and is Convener of the Law Society Equalities Law Reform Committee.  Sarah acts for a wide range of employer and employee clients in the public and private sectors.  Sarah also has particular expertise in the education sector and regularly advises independent schools in relation to accessibility, discrimination issues and parental complaints. Sarah is ranked by Chambers for Employment Law and as a notable practitioner in Education.
